Slinky Malinki by Lynley Dodd

Slinky Malinki is a black cat with a tip at the end of his tail. He steals things and takes them back to his house over the hill. He gets caught in the end!

There is a lot of rhyming in this book. I’ve seen it on the Hairy Maclary DVD. It is probably best for children up to six years of age. I like the pictures as they inform you about the text. It is a nice, quick read.

The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth

  • Divergent
  • Insurgent
  • Allegiant

These books are about a post-apocalyptic world. It is broken up into factions based on personality. Beatrice Prior makes a decision, and she needs to find out whether the man that both protects her, and threatens her, is really on her side.

This series is a New York Times #1 Best Seller list. It is gripping and addictive. The reader gets attached to the characters and it is well-written. I really like that you can go online and do personality tests to see which faction you’d be in. I think this series would be good for 13 – 15 year olds.

Roller-Coaster by Meish Goldish

Roller-Coaster is about the scariest roller-coasters. It tells you all sorts of facts about different roller-coasters. It describes what the rides are made out of and if they have ever broken. It gives all sorts of information.

I like that it is informative and easy to read. The picture on the cover is great because it shows people screaming as they go down a hill on a roller-coaster. The photos are great.

The Bad Guys by Aaron Blabey

This book is about a wolf, a shark, a piranha, a snake and a tarantula spider. They have named themselves, “The Good Guys Club.” The characters are all trying to prove that they are good guys, and not the bad guys in stories all the time. They have just finished one of their missions, which was to rescue dogs – in Episode 1.

In Episode 2 – Mission Unpluckable – the characters try to find a way into “Sunnyside Chicken Farm” so that they can help all the chickens escape from their cages. This may sound easy to accomplish but if they touch the walls or ground in the chicken farm, the alarms will go off and they will be caught.

This book is all about the adventurous moments of the “Sunnyside Chicken Farm” mission. Do they succeed and manage to save the chickens?
